It is extremely important to discuss what is one of the most difficult conversations to have with family, friends and loved ones about what you want to happen near or at the end of life.

It is important to discuss and answer questions such as: Should a feeding tube be installed when you can’t feed yourself? Should a ventilator be attached when breathing independently becomes difficult? If so, for how long? Should resuscitation be attempted if the heart stops beating? Or would you prefer to receive just comfort care to treat pain and other symptoms and be allowed to die a “natural” death? Who will make medical decisions for you when you no longer can?

Difficult but necessary.
